Who Am I?
THE SHORT ANSWER:
A mover and a maker
THE LONG ANSWER:
Allison Kelly Dyke. Originally from Reston, VA, I moved to New York City to pursue my dream of dancing professionally and discovered that my dreams are made of much more. Upon graduating from Elon University in 2017 with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography and a BA in Psychology, I immediately began working in a field that had nothing to do with either of my formal education—costumes! Since arriving in the big apple two years ago, I’ve been stitching, dressing, and designing for theater and dance.
Performance for me isn’t an action that requires a stage. It’s a frame of mind; it’s the act of losing myself and finding myself in the character/texture/creature that the work requires me to become. You’re just as likely to find me in an immersive theater piece as you are to find me painting the town red as my nightlife alter-ego Lily L’Noir. Creepy, glittery, sexy, weird, sensual, unsettling, intimate, overwhelming, I love it all.
I also make dance. I’m sure I’ll have a clearer idea in 50 years whether any of it is any good, but for now I’ll let it speak for itself. If you like provocative, feminist, moody dance, my work may be for you.
